Stone or laminate? Choose the right benchtop repair specialist

A stone-look pattern does not tell you what a benchtop is made from. Identify the surface first so the repair advice, materials and expectations match your kitchen.

Careful application at a damaged stone surface

Start with the material, not the pattern

Laminate can carry a marble or granite pattern, while engineered stone can have a plain finish. Check your installation records, supplier invoice or product name before describing the surface. If you are unsure, send an overall photograph and a photograph of an already visible edge or underside. Do not remove fittings, break the surface or make a test chip to identify it.

Describe what has changed

Tell the relevant specialist whether you can see a chipped edge, a lifting surface, swelling, a loose joint or a crack. Include when it first appeared and any previous repair. Similar-looking marks can involve different materials and different causes. A photograph is a useful starting point, but it may not establish the construction or the condition below the surface.

Choose someone who works with that surface

StoneRepair focuses on installed stone surfaces and suitable stone repairs. If your benchtop is laminate, contact its supplier, installer or a cabinetmaker who can assess that construction. Do not assume stone repair pricing or stone repair materials apply to laminate. Ask what the proposed work addresses, what difference may remain and whether a damaged section needs replacing.

For a stone benchtop enquiry

If the surface is marble, granite, quartz, engineered stone, porcelain or another stone product, send the material name if known and clear photos of the whole installation and each damaged area. Include your suburb, access and previous treatments. We can discuss a suitable stone repair scope and its limitations, or explain when a different service is the more appropriate next step.

Questions, answered.

Can a marble-look benchtop be laminate?

Yes. Use product records and the actual construction to identify the material rather than relying on its printed or natural-looking pattern.

Do StoneRepair prices apply to laminate repairs?

No. Our listed repair scopes concern stone. A laminate supplier, installer or cabinetmaker should assess a laminate benchtop and confirm their own scope and price.
